Getting back into the groove

Getting back into the groove

Hello all and happy Wednesday!  We are now officially halfway through the week, and for us that means warmer temps (finally).  Although the long-range forecast has 20’s and 30’s back in the forecast starting Sunday, but I’m just going to pretend I didn’t see that 🙂  Looking through my iPhone photos last night I realized a lot has happened over here since I recapped our Christmas festivities.  So I figure I’ll just dump a bunch of photos in here and call it a post.  Sound good?  Here we go…

Sunday night we got the kids showered and in pajamas before dinner, and let them play a bit while we were cooking.  They decided to take out one of Graham’s Christmas presents and see what they could build.  Steps and a race track for his monster trucks!  And don’t be fooled by Reagan’s expression – she was most likely contemplating how she could knock this all down without getting into trouble…

Sunday on the way to church Reagan out of the blue exclaimed “why do you never feed us fish anymore?”  Those gears are always going, that’s for sure!  So we picked up some canned salmon at Costco, and a tasting plate of sorts was born.  That salmon salad was actually really good, and I’m thinking of recreating this for lunch for ME one of these days.

It’s Pinewood Derby time for this cub scout and den leader.  The cub scouts chose a video game theme this year, so Graham decided he wanted to build an Xbox car.  They still have to add the wheels and weights, but it’s coming along nicely.  I love how much Graham loves cub scouts!

I’ve definitely gotten the decorating bug, and have been attacking all areas of the house.  This is the “running wall,” and I absolutely love how it turned out!  A Philadelphia Marathon poster, two framed pictures from Nathan and my last races (which also happen to be PR races for both of us), a race medal rack, and some of the race numbers we have held onto through the years.  Our basement gym is looking really good (and so motivational).

My sister and I have been working out together!  We generally only manage once a week, but it’s been so fun to have my favorite workout buddy back.  And considering she has a 2 1/2 year old and a 6-month old…she is absolutely KILLING it!

As I mentioned above, I’ve been really into decorating lately.  We had 4 of these large black frames from our old house, and the decor seemed to be a bit formal for our farmhouse.  So I decided to try my hand at chalk painting, and am thrilled with the results!  And now I want to chalk paint everything in site 🙂  This picture is now hanging in our laundry room, which we are currently finishing.  The last part will be custom-made drying racks that pull down from the wall.  Nathan has become quite the woodworker!

And here is another one of those frames that I chalk painted with a charcoal grey and added one of my favorite pictures of the kids.  This is now hanging in our library, and brings a smile to my face whenever I see it.  I think I will need to recreate this picture in 10 years…

Sunday night dinner was our version of Chipotle.  Cilantro-lime rice, black beans, corn (preserved from this summer), chicken thighs marinated in chipotle peppers, cheese, sour cream, and homemade guacamole.  Not pictured: HUGE mounds of tortilla chips.  This meal was a hit with everyone!

Sorry this picture is blurry (I think I got hand lotion on the camera lens?) but it was too cute not the share.  Saturday night when the kids were waiting for dinner Graham decided to read Reagan a book and she was rubbing his back while listening.  I also got a video because these are the moments I want to remember.

Saturday night was pizza night!  Here is the kids’ version – ours was still in the oven.  I make my crust in my bread maker and just brush it with olive oil before adding toppings.  And this was 100% Reagan – she even cut the cheese for me!

A little Chiefs game after dinner.  Too bad they lost yet ANOTHER playoff game.  Onto next year I suppose…

And my dessert after the kids were in bed.  Chocolate chip cookies with some raw ice cream we picked up at the farm last weekend.  This totally hit.the.spot.

And with that, I’m going to leave you with what was greeting me Sunday morning when I went downstairs to run.  -3?  I’ll take the treadmill today thankyouverymuch!

I hope you all are having a wonderful week, and I’ll check back in on Friday with some more life updates!
