Good morning and happy Friday to ya! We have a busy day planned, with a trip to this amazing Kids Castle, a picnic lunch, and picking up 15 gallons of milk to restock our freezer. Today I thought it would be fun to share with you some things I have been loving lately. And definitely share what you’ve been loving lately in the comment!
Dry roasted almonds from Costco. I have always loved almonds, but the addition of sea salt definitely take these to the next level. And bonus that I can buy a huge bag of them!
When I’m driving I generally listen to country. However, the other day I was on my way to the gym and decided to see what the 90’s station was playing. This was the first song that I ever learned all the words to, and I still know 85% of them. So fun to jam along with this with the windows rolled down. My 13 year old self was freaking out I’m sure.
One of the *many* things I love about summer is having fresh flowers in the house. Nathan grows quite a few different kinds in his garden to help with the plants, and he’s always surprising me by bringing in fresh ones. I will take this over roses any day!
Cracker Barrel sandals! One our way home from our girls’ getaway we stopped at Cracker Barrel for a late lunch. I haven’t been in one in YEARS (maybe during college?) and was pleasantly surprised by all the fun things they have for sale in their little store. My sister insisted I HAD to have these, and that the tassels are very trendy right now (she knows way more about fashion than I ever will). And at $12 who could say no to that?
Our basement steps are finally done! Nathan did such a great job, and it feels so great to be DONE with this project. Here’s a flashback to what they looked like before…
And the finished product!
Fresh Jersey sweet corn! This time of year means so many things to me – one of them being corn. My favorite way to eat it is to cut the kernels off the cob and fry it up in a pan with butter and salt. And I love a little burn on mine which makes it extra crispy. I will take this over eating it off the cob any day – no corn stuck in your teeth!
We are finally getting our basement finished and organized. This has proven to be a longer project than we anticipated, but the feeling of walking down there now and seeing things on the wall, a fully stocked gym, and a cozy sitting area has everyone wanting to spend more time down there. And I know it’ll be great this winter to go down there with the kids and let them run around like crazy. Here is a picture of the desk area complete with diplomas (which have been boxed up since our old house went on the market 3 years ago)!
And here’s a view of the basement gym. Still need to hang some more posters, and Nathan is going to build something to hang our race medals and race numbers. But we are making great progress and I’ve actually been doing quite a few workouts down here now.
I know I’ve mentioned this no less than 50 times on here, but Nathan’s garden is doing SO WELL this year. We are now smack dab in the middle of cucumber and zucchini season (among other things of course) and he took this picture the other day to show me his loot. He has the huge garden at home, and also participates in a community garden at his work. Double the produce! We made some pickles with these cucumbers, and are hoping to try our hand at new dill pickles next.
And speaking of zucchini season, what would a summer be without zucchini bread? Last weekend I decided to mix things up a bit and make lemon zucchini bread. It turned out so well! I followed this recipe, but substituted coconut oil for vegetable oil and omitted the glaze. I will definitely be making this again and just throw the loaves in the freezer for when winter hits and we all need a little taste of summer.
And with that, I’m off to spend the day with the kiddos! I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy all the things summer has to offer.
What have you been loving lately? What’s your favorite thing or memory from the summer?
